The Art Department at Augustana University is seeking applicants for the tenure track faculty position of Assistant Professor of Graphic Design beginning Fall 2022.

Primary Responsibilities: (1) Instruction of design and graphic design studio courses for majors and non-majors, (2) maintaining an active record of creative scholarship (3) advising undergraduates, and (4) service to the University community.

Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence, an on-going artistic studio practice and creative research, and provide service to the institution. The university seeks individuals with drive, an appreciation for diversity, talent to teach undergraduate courses in 2D design and graphic design, and the ability to create a multi-level graphic design emphasis area that would serve BFA and advanced students. The normal teaching load is three courses per semester and one course in the January interim (3-1-3). The courses taught will include Design 1, Graphic Design 1, and Advanced Graphic Design courses. Successful candidates will share and maintain the computer laboratory classroom space, with printers, computers, and other digital media tools.

A successful applicant will have a demonstrated dedication to undergraduate education, a commitment to innovative teaching, proof of excellence in studio work, a distinguished exhibition record or equivalent in professional graphic design portfolio, and the ability to meet the flexible instructional needs of the department. Interacting with students, faculty, and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture must be a top value of the candidate.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education: MFA required

Minimum Experience/Training:

  • Demonstrated expertise and skill in graphic design.

  • Three years of professional experience

  • The successful candidate must have a commitment to college-level teaching

  • The successful candidate must be willing and able to teach in both the traditional face-to-face and blended (hybrid) format.

  • The successful candidate will be expected to maintain active professional development activities and service to the Department and University. Committee work is expected.

Salary: Salary is competitive and dependent upon qualifications.
