Job Description

The 4-H Program Educator is a professional educator who provides leadership to the local 4-H After School Program, manages its day-to-day operation, and extends similar learning opportunities throughout other 4-H programs. 4-H believes in the power of young people, and utilizes trained professionals and caring adult volunteers to deliver programming that allows youth to learn by doing. The mission of 4-H is to develop youth to realize their full potential-becoming effective, contributing citizens through participation in research-based, non-formal, hands-on educational experiences.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications, including education and experience. The 4-H Program Educator position is a non-tenure track, administrative professional faculty position at the rank of Lecturer. This is a full-time, restricted 12-month appointment. The position will be located in Warrenton, Virginia, with periodic travel to other parts of the state, as needed to support programming efforts and events.

Required Qualifications

Qualified applicants must have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) with significant professional experience or expertise at time of employment in a relevant discipline from a credited college or university. Knowledge and experience in planning conducting, and evaluating non-formal education programs that meet the needs of diverse audiences is required. In addition, knowledge of child and human development, program marketing skills, strong computer skills, and consistent and effective work habits are desired. Qualified applicants should also be able to make efficient use of time and resources , have the ability to relate effectively to youth and adults with a high level of independent judgement, and also possess excellent written and oral communication skills.

A personal commitment to working with diverse clientele and colleagues, and a willingness to further the civil rights goals of Virginia Cooperative Extension. This position requires occasional evening and weekend work. The person in this position is expected to travel to provide in-person leadership and to build community partnerships with few exceptions for telework.
