The Assistant Director of Equity and Inclusion will execute diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to support the University’s strategic plan to create a learning environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed. The Assistant Director will lead initiatives to close the graduation gaps among all identities within the university. The Assistant Director will actively engage learners, leaders, and employees to further behaviors, attitudes, practices, and policies that advance diversity, equity, and inclusion. In supporting the vision and goals established by the Chief Student Success, Equity, and Inclusion Officer, the Assistant Director will collaborate with stakeholders to assess potential barriers and develop and implement strategies to recruit and retain students. The position reports to the Chief Student Success, Equity, and Inclusion Officer and will interface with all divisions and represent the university internally and externally. The individual in this position will need to cultivate and maintain strong professional relationships with key personnel in all university areas.


Preferred Education: Minimum possession of Master’s degree in an academic or professional discipline.

Required Experience:

• A minimum of three to five years’ experience in higher education and experience in equity and inclusion.


• Customer service leadership experience and a minimum of three years in higher education areas outlined above.


• Experience developing and implementing comprehensive equity and inclusion programs to increase awareness and support of equity and inclusion values in an online environment.

• Knowledge of metrics in support of the development and evaluation of equity and inclusion initiatives.

• Demonstrated leadership as an effective organizational change agent, preferably in higher education

• Demonstrated scholarship related to the educational impact of diversity, equity, and inclusion, preferably in higher education

Examples of Work:

•Develop, implement, and coordinate comprehensive equity and inclusion strategies to improve the student experience from inquiry to graduation and beyond

•Develop assessment and evaluation criteria to ensure program success in collaboration with the Director of Assessment. Measurable outcomes include and improve equity and inclusion

•Propose additional resources needed to support DEI efforts

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

•Knowledge of advanced theories, principles, and best practices related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

•Knowledge of people leadership, managerial principles, and practices.

•Demonstrated ability in areas of conflict resolution and mediation methods.

•Strong organizational, strategic and problem-solving skills

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

•Ability to develop programs, articulate concepts, create action plans, measure results.

•Ability to prepare clear reports and studies that include findings and recommendations.

•Ability to represent the University at conferences, seminars, or meetings.

•Ability to manage and prioritize tasks and assignments.

•Ability to acquire basic knowledge of the university philosophy, goal, and organization.

•Ability to acquire basic knowledge of the higher education system and the function of institutions of higher learning.

•Ability to utilize data in the evaluation of initiatives.

•Demonstrated background establishes cooperative working relationships and coordinates with other offices or organizations that impact or relate to the work of the section(s) and program or unit.

•Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with supervisors and staff.
