National Louis University is seeking applicants interested in joining our team as a Student Finance Representative – Verification Specialist. This position acts as a part of the financial aid team, importing and correcting FAFSA information from the Department of Education, performing verification reviews and follow-up, and exercising professional judgment on a case-by-case student basis. The Student Finance Representative also resolves C flag issues on ISIRs and analyzes NSLDS to determine aggregate loan amounts.

In this role you will:

  • Perform verification. Ensure all required forms are submitted, review all information to determine changes or updates required, and ISIR code resolution. Exercise professional judgment and review student appeals. Submit FAFSA corrections to clear issues and conflicts. Communicate any required updates to students when necessary. Help develop forms and instructions and information for the NLU website. Review regulations and work with the management team to implement any changes required.
  • Electronically imports data from Dept of Ed and handles accordingly – separate load, match data, resolve C flags, resolve conflicts or overrides, run reports, etc. Process and analyze student FAFSAs. Assist in new aid year tracking set-up; identify, process, investigate, and resolve issues.
  • Manage TEACH Grant awarding. Review student applications, determine eligibility for the grant, communicate required service obligation information to students. Review eligibility each term and check NSLDS and COD to ensure students do not exceed annual or aggregate award amounts.
  • Analyze NSLDS information to determine the aggregate amount of loans, amount of outstanding Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans, and compare the analysis with consolidated loan information. Analyze aggregate totals, canceled loans, and returned funds to determine any over-awarded loans or grants, bankruptcy, or defaults. Train on the use of NSLDS for packaging and determine over awarded loans or grants.
  • Serve as a backup financial aid packager when needed and necessary, preparing financial aid awards and ensuring they meet federal, state, and institutional regulations.
  • Serve as the web editor for the department, make changes, develop new web pages, and propose new ways to structure information.

Essential Skills/Experience 
  • Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field required. Bachelor’s degree with coursework in math, business, or finance preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a financial aid department of an accredited college or university with direct responsibility for advising on or awarding financial aid.
