Job Description

The Laboratory Technician will serve as a member of the Epigenomics and Computational Biology Laboratory and the Kehn-Hall Laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology, VA-MD College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech. The Lab Tech will work with a team of scientists and researchers on the epigenetic control of state transitions of brain cells in response to environmental stimuli. The lab mission is to solve important problems in the life sciences through transdisciplinary research and education. The Lab Tech will be expected to work collaboratively and participate in the lab activities including the generation of experimental data for publications, as well as on grants proposals to funding agencies and other entities.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Neuroscience, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or related field.
  • Use of standard lab instrumentation, e.g. centrifuges and PCRs, are expected.
  • Experience with basic molecule and cell biology techniques, including cell culture, PCR, DNA/RNA isolation, etc.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in animal breeding
