Assistant Professor of Live Experience Design

Pennsylvania College of Art & Design is seeking a full-time faculty member to serve as the inaugural department chair and assistant professor for the College’s Live Experience Design BFA program. Live Experience Design is a rapidly growing, interdisciplinary field. From rock concerts and theatrical stage performances to curated healthcare and retail experiences and immersive art, experience designers use narratives built through multiple media—visual, aural, and tactile—to stimulate strong emotional reactions to brands, performers, stories, and environments, shifting and directing the ways we engage with the world around us.

Qualified applications would possess experience in creative design, media, and technology; creation and innovation in live and virtual performances, experiences, and environments; and/or interactive and curated environments. Primary responsibilities of this position would be to provide leadership in the establishment of this new program as the inaugural department chairperson, teach 12 contact hours per semester, mentor students in the program via academic advising and internship exploration support, and fulfill general faculty responsibilities which include: participating in all assessment and student reviews, supporting department management activities, serving on college committees, and regularly participating in admissions activities.

The position begins July 1, 2022, and reports to the Provost.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Masters degree or equivalent professional experience required in one or more of the following areas or in related fields: Experience Design, Creative Media and Technology, Live Performance Production, Media Arts, New Media, Photographic and Electronic Media
  • Outstanding communication and effective motivation skills targeted to a diverse group of students, colleagues, and community members
  • A team player committed to building and maintaining a professional environment for peers and students
  • Desire to work collaboratively towards the development of shared projects and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated understanding of assessment practices
  • Demonstrated support for a student-centered learning environment
