Under the direction of the Provost, the Dean of Student Affairs provides leadership and vision for the college for several broad-based areas within Student Affairs. The Dean will lead and ensure effective administration of areas such as student life/leadership, student conduct, academic advising, career services, student records, counseling, disability services, first year experience, tutoring services, police and public safety, adult education, testing services, Title IX, and Perkins. The Dean will work closely with the executive leadership team, faculty and staff to develop strategic and operational plans to ensure student success.

The Dean will provide leadership, analysis and advice in relation to policies and procedures regarding students and academic support services for students. In this work, the Dean will develop student retention strategies in conjunction with all instructional areas in order to meet or exceed targeted outcomes. The Dean will also work with other deans and the Provost to advance UA-PTC’s mission.

  • Assuring the college’s strategic objectives of student services and their interface with academic are met through robust assessment/program review practices;
  • Fostering a culture of evidence-based practice within a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff;
  • Providing leadership in the evaluation and professional development of staff;
  • Developing the division budget and providing oversight for effective resource management;
  • Leading and representing the Division of Student Affairs in the day-to-day operations, ensuring safety of students, consistency of practice, transparent and consistent communication, and implementation of high-impact student success strategies;
  • Provides high-level leadership for Student Services
  • Develop, foster, and promote new opportunities for partnerships with external and internal constituencies;
  • Organizes and coordinates the orientation program for new students in partnership with the Dean of Admissions & Financial Aid;
  • Serve as senior administrator responsible for ensuring students have equal access to services across the institution;
  • Ensures compliance with FERPA for all student records by supervising the maintenance, security, and proper disclosure of such records;
  • Supports the leadership of the Office of Student Records; including commencement and related activities.;
  • Assume responsibility for establishing a college experience that promotes respect for students;
  • Serves as Title IX Coordinator and member of the Title IX compliance team;
  • Serves as senior administrator overseeing student complaints and conducts investigations as required;
  • Completes annual training requirements and contributes to campus safety and security efforts;
  • Leads or participates in organization-wide initiatives and committees;
  • Develops, monitors, and implements goals and objectives that are directly aligned to the UA-PTC Strategic Plan and the College’s Academic Master Plan;
  • Holds regular meetings with faculty and staff to ensure communication, collaboration, and effectiveness of operations;
  • Conducts annual and comprehensive evaluations for staff, services, and activities;
  • Maintains responsibility for utilizing data, surveys, and studies to identify the appropriate direction to ensure relevancy and continuous quality improvement of Student Affairs programs.
  • Interprets and performs assignments in compliance with federal, state, and local laws, including contractual regulations;
  • Ensures that scheduled planning and program review processes are implemented and monitored for Student Affairs; 
  • Provides leadership for and contributes to the institutional accreditation process.
  • Participates in institutional shared governance;
  • Ensures the preparation of reports and records for grant and other specially funded programs, and supports faculty and directors in development and compliance for programs;
  • Examines, evaluates, and recommends technological innovations;
  • Assists faculty and staff in utilizing student retention and completion data.
  • Provide support and council in co-curricular learning development, documentation, and assessment;
  • Collaborates and communicates with other administrators in the development and planning of programs and services within the scope of assignment;
  • Manage grants as assigned or initiated by the college;
  • Oversees Testing Center and collaborates with Recruitment and Admissions staff to offer testing at all sites and local high schools as needed;
  • Manages Advising Center and facilitates student advising throughout campus to increase retention and graduation rates;
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned.


  • Earned a Master’s Degree in Education, Educational Administration, Student Affairs or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education.;
  • At least five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in administrative leadership in an accredited institution of higher education;
  • Experience in creating effective planning and implementation processes linked to institutional vision;
  • Demonstrated experience with student services data software and related technologies;
  • Evidence of commitment to collegial, consultative processes in a shared-governance environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage effectively;
  • Experience with the operational and financial management of a division, including strategic planning, policy development, budgeting, and personnel administration;
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion;
  • Evidence of commitment to collaboration, transparency and ethical behavior; and
  • Evidence of effective collaboration with external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in education, educational administration, student affairs, higher education, or education policy from an accredited institution of higher education;
  • Demonstrated and successful experience with increasing retention and graduation rates of a two-year institution;
  • Evidence of working with deans and department chairs to support student success.
