Position Summary
The International Studies Institute at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a teaching Visiting Assistant Professor position to begin in August 2022. This is a full-time position with specialization in Jewish, Middle Eastern, and/or Israeli Studies. Applicants must have a PhD in Jewish, Israeli, and/or Middle Eastern Studies or a field in which they work on such studies (for example, Political Science, History, Religious Studies, Anthropology, or Sociology) by the date of appointment. For best consideration, all application materials must be received by January 10, 2022.

Applications must demonstrate evidence of research and teaching in studies touching on modern Israel and another area of Jewish, Israeli, and/or Middle Eastern studies. The VAP will teach undergraduate courses in International Studies that will be cross-listed with appropriate departments, supervise independent studies and Honors theses, be an active member of the Contemporary Jewish Studies Lecture Series Advisory Board, organize four lectures and/or events per year, do outreach work with the surrounding community, and contribute to ISI's outgoing mission.

Qualifications

Minimum
a.) Ph.D. in Jewish, Israeli, and/or Middle Eastern Studies or a field in which they work on such studies (for example, Political Science, History, Religious Studies, Anthropology, or Sociology) by the date of appointment.
b.) Evidence of ability to teach courses on modern Israel and the broader Middle East.

Preferred
a) Evidence of an active research agenda and publication history focused on an area that can be cross-listed with Arabic, Religious Studies, Political Science, History, Anthropology, and/or Sociology;
b) Academic preparation and ability to teach undergraduate courses in International Studies, cross-listed with appropriate departments;
d) Ability to supervise independent studies and Honors theses in their area of specialty;
e) A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, including experience working with broadly diverse communities.
