West Virginia University Research Corporation is currently accepting applications for a Health Geographer.

About the Opportunity

As a Health Geographer, you willprovide specialized support to the Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design core within the WV Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (WVCTSI). Youwill be expected to perform basic to advanced workflows using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software to manage, visualize, and analyze clinical dataset. You will also beexpected to work within a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment. As such, excellent written and verbal communication skills are vital. This position will report to the Assistant Director of Research Data Services.

This position allows for flexibility in work location, including potential hybrid or remote work / work from home options. Travel to the WVU Campus may need to occur based on organizational needs throughout the year.

What you'll do:

  • Utilize spatial analytical capabilities and strong knowledge of GIS software to conduct projects utilizing clinical data for research.
  • Manage and visualize clinical datasets.
  • Conduct research projects involving complex datasets both independently and collaboratively.
  • Simultaneously respond to and work on multiple projects while being able to prioritize urgent requests.
  • Demonstrate expert proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS software.
  • Create and deliver PowerPoint presentations as needed.
  • Generate reports to document progress towards publications, WVCTSI reporting milestones, and grants.
  • Assist in developing and updating WVCTSI BERD core capabilities.
  • Provide support to our spatial epidemiologist for COVID-19 and other clinical projects as needed.
  • Maintain proficiency in R programming language.
  • Regularly meet with investigators and clinical teams leading research projects to provide consultations and updates on projects.
  • Identify relationships and trends in data, as well as any factors that could affect the results of research.
  • Maintain security and confidentiality of patient information.
  • Perform quality control audits to ensure accuracy, completeness, or proper usage of clinical systems and data. Create supporting documentation, such as metadata and diagrams of entity relationships, business processes, and process flow.
  • Collaborate with system architects, software architects, design analysts, and others to understand business or industry requirements.

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Geography, Data Science, Biomedical Sciences, or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
  • Strong proficiency with GIS software.
  • Excellent English verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret written reports.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to establish priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain highly sensitive confidential material and be compliant with the organization's protected health. information guidelines.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong attention to detail, flexible, and ability to adapt to changes which occur in fast-paced clinical research environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with R Programming language.
  • Proficiency with Tableau software.
