Job Description

Virginia Cooperative Extension seeks a District Director for the new Northeast District. The Northeast District Office will be located at the Virginia Tech Richmond Center, 2810 N. Parham Road, Richmond VA 23294. The Northeast District includes the following 25 Counties and Cities: Alexandria, Arlington, Caroline, Chesterfield, Essex, Fairfax, Gloucester, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, King George, King & Queen, King William, Lancaster, Loudoun, Mathews, Middlesex, Northumberland, Powhatan, Prince William, Richmond City, Richmond County, Spotsylvania, Stafford and Westmorland. The position reports to the Associate Director of Field Operations and Administration for Virginia Cooperative Extension. The District Director supervises office staff and agent faculty in the district. The successful candidate will be lecturer rank, nontenure track, professional faculty. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Significant responsibilities include: provide administrative, supervisory and programmatic leadership; serve as the administrative link between field faculty and the campus administration; recruit, interview, and select district personnel; provide training and professional development opportunities for faculty and staff; evaluate programs for success; provide feedback and evaluations for district personnel; identify and recommend staffing plans for the district; promote volunteer involvement including Extension Leadership Councils and ensure that situational analyses are conducted to guide needs based programming; provide leadership for effective civil rights and diversity efforts and compliance; coach and counsel faculty to ensure that programs are effective in meeting local needs; evaluate program impacts and modify programs as needed; oversee budgets at the district and unit levels and ensure that resources are secured to support programs; develop and maintain positive relationships with governmental and private agencies and elected officials; market district programs to ensure continuing local, state and federal support; address situations requiring conflict management and mediation as needed. Able to travel extensively, up to 50 percent of the work schedule.

Required Qualifications

Cooperative Extension experience with a Master's degree in a relevant field; demonstrated leadership abilities and skills; experience supervising, coaching and evaluation of personnel; experience implementing exemplary educational programs; excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills; effective time management skills, service oriented approach to management and leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD in a relevant discipline, previous Extension administration experience.
