Position Highlights

The Behavioral Health Counselor I will join the ASHLine Coaching Team that offers multimodal technology based coaching interaction for the treatment of tobacco dependence among a caseload of clients. Location: Remote telework. Responsibilities include; provide brief, minimal or intensive evidence-based treatment for tobacco dependence as needed following program policies and procedures, participating in ongoing training, responding to assigned tasks, and meeting expectations around defined quality assurance standards. The Behavioral Health Counselor I, also promotes client-centered engagement through active tailoring of services around unique biological, psychological and social needs. The Behavioral Health Counselor I must provide a friendly response to all calls and be responsive to real time customer feedback. Shift hours change relative to the needs of the program and could throughout the year with availability to flex schedule. All Quitline staff are required to work some holiday shifts. The Behavioral Health Counselor I, reports directly to the clinical team lead supervisor who is overseen by the assistant director.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conducts thorough assessment interviews as needed for prioritizing treatment planning to ASHLine callers, which includes assessing for and determining eligibility for benefit programs.
  • Managing a caseload of clients providing participant centered evidence-based brief, minimal, or intensive tobacco dependence treatment services as needed.
  • The coaches and the team leads are required to be responsive to incoming intake calls.
  • Maintains a high level of proficiency in treating tobacco dependence. Attends and actively participates in training sessions, staff meetings. Attends to and incorporates clinical feedback as needed. Closely adheres to treatment manuals and protocols that incorporate evidence based skill building such as client-directed approaches, motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, staff expectations, quality assurance programs, safety and compliance standards.
  • Provides accurate clinical documentation for clients such as tracking clients through progress notes and providing timely call-backs per established ASHLine protocols.
  • Provides multimodal technology based interaction.
  • Reviews quality assurance metrics evaluation with an agreement to demonstrate accountability and corrective action within the required benchmarks and specified time frames.
  • Participates in ongoing feedback loops designed to regularly improve internal processes and provide insights into daily interactions with participants.
  • Contributes to professional growth by participating in training and educational programs as requested, reviewing/reading current professional literature, contributing to peer network discussions, and maintaining appropriate certifications as required.
  • Participates in new hire shadowing when asked by supervisors or managers that reflects a positive- team building attitude.
  • Refer clients to available resources such as support groups, cessation classes, behavioral and public health programs, or community programs as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • One (1) year of relevant work experience required.
  • Master degree in related field required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Preferred Qualifications

* Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS).
* Four years' experience working with clients in a clinical setting, preferably offering tobacco dependence treatment.
* Working knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, and CBT based models for working with tobacco dependence treatment.
* Working experience with clients with serious mental illnesses.
* Knowledge of most current evidence based clinical practice guidelines around delivering telephone counseling for tobacco dependence treatment.
* Demonstrated interpersonal skills-telephone skills.
