The department of Leadership and Organization Development (LOD)within Talent and Culture at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Director.

About the Opportunity

The Director of Leadership and Organization Developmentis responsible for assessing organizational need, designing and deploying various leadership and organizational development programs, tools and processes that facilitate improved organizational performance.

What You'll Do

This role oversees a team of LOD consultants and will be responsible for LOD initiatives including, but not limited to:

  • Assess organizational needs of academic, operating, business and functional units.
  • Work collaboratively with the Talent & Culture HR Partners and Centers of Expertise (COE) on the design, development and implementation of programs, policies and strategies to meet business needs and operating goals.
  • Assist with the provision of expert facilitation and coaching.
  • Oversee culture and engagement activities to include survey tools and programs that enhance positive employee experiences.

Deploy the following programs, tools and processes:

  • Talent Assessment & Performance Management - Facilitate talent assessments and reviews, identify areas of improvement and consult with leaders for improved performance.
  • Succession management - Facilitate or participate in succession management sessions, consult with HR Partners and leaders on opportunities, summarize and present results.
  • Leadership development - Identify learning needs, work with HR Partners and Talent & Culture COE to develop or customize available programs and facilitate or oversee the delivery of development programs.
  • Front-line leaders - Provide tools and learning programs that boost front-line supervisory effectiveness.
  • Mentoring- Provide coaching and assist management in the matching of individuals with mentors.
  • Multi-rater Assessment - Facilitate multi-rater assessment and feedback sessions.
  • Consult with HR Partners on facility and division-specific employee engagement strategies.
  • Prepare leaders and employees to lead and manage change throughout the organization.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field required; Master's or PhD in industrial/organizational psychology or related field and/or equivalent experience strongly preferred.
  • Ten (10) years of experience involving:
    • Leadership development and organizational design/development roles.
    • Strategic business partner support a plus.
  • Exceptional coaching, strategic consulting, facilitation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect business and people strategies and lead the development and execution of human capital planning.
  • Expert level ability to lead, coach, consult with, and influence senior leaders towards success and effectiveness in leadership team and organizational capability.
  • Strong business acumen including track record reflecting active contributions to key business plans and decisions.
  • Reputation for bringing out the best in others and demonstrating commitment to building a high-performance culture.
  • Demonstrated experience in executing talent management strategies.
  • Proven ability to understand sophisticated leadership and organization development concepts; translate into simple and executable strategies and programs.
  • Must have worked closely with HR Business Partners on initiatives.
  • Must have understanding of additional HR functions.
