This position provides, develops, and maintains a systematic and evidence-based set of strategies and initiatives to enable the college to shape its enrollment focusing on student recruitment, retention, and completion. Working closely with the other divisions, the Dean of Enrollment Services develops, articulates and implements a dynamic, forward-looking, and comprehensive strategic enrollment management plan that aligns with the college’s strategic initiatives and ensures a strong link between student experience, college priorities, and community needs. Specific areas of responsibilities include oversight of Admissions, Advising, Career Services, TRIO, Recruitment, Financial Aid and the Registrar. The Dean of Enrollment Services reports directly to the Interim Provost.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This list includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Designs, recommends, and implements a strategic enrollment management plan through research and data analysis of enrollment issues, trends, and models
  • Provides leadership, mentorship, direction, support, supervision, and professional development opportunities for employees in enrollment services departments according to college policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Builds and maintains strong and collaborative relationships with other college leadership, working collegially with the members of faculty, staff and others to develop and implement short- and long-term enrollment plans.
  • Provides integration and coordination of services, programs, and initiatives of enrollment departments that meet college mission/goals, current student needs and best practice trends.
  • Models and implements effective enrollment management strategies with employees in such areas as on-going professional development, mentoring and customer service awareness.
  • Collaborates with instructional and student services departments to develop strategies and initiatives that contribute to the retention of students using key metrics to measure effectiveness.
  • Compiles, analyzes, interprets and presents data to appropriate stakeholders that describes the outcomes of strategic enrollment strategies and guides future activities.
  • Identifies and recommends solutions to enrollment barriers.
  • Collaborates with Communications and Marketing in the development of a communication plan and related strategies that target prospective and continuing students across the student lifecycle.
  • Develops recruitment and retention strategies with local high schools, business & industry partners, community-based organizations, area social services agencies, and other strategic sources.
  • Identifies and recommends technology to improve student engagement, communications, and success initiatives.
  • Stays abreast of current and emerging trends in student affairs and higher education, particularly as they relate to community college student recruitment, retention and completion.
  • Develops a set of core outcomes for enrollment services and measures and tracks annual performance against objectives; prepares and submits annual assessment report.
  • Prepares and reviews budget and grant proposals for enrollment services and initiatives
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college.
  • Maintains a positive, helpful, constructive attitude and work relationship with supervisor, college staff, students, and the community.
Marginal Duties
  • Participates in campus and community committees and organizations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the VPSS.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, a Master’s degree is preferred
  • Minimum of five years full-time experience in higher education, preferably community college, administration including the areas of Enrollment Management, Advising, Student Records, Registration, Financial Aid and/or Recruitment programs. 
  • Progressive experience leading large teams
  • Experience in budget, supervision, enrollment/student services planning, and data management
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities *
  • Strong understanding of FERPA and records security, student records processing, financial aid processing, veteran’s affairs and related federal regulations
  • Highly skilled in the development and implementation of recruitment, retention and completion initiatives
  • Comprehensive knowledge college functions, including instruction and student services
  • Strong knowledge of methods and techniques for conducting statistical and financial analyses
  • Strong supervisory skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Strong team leadership skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Proficient skills using Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn and adapt to emerging technologies, software, and social media

Physical requirements and environment are typical of those in a general office setting. Typically involves regular sitting, standing, walking, typing, moving, lifting objects up to 10 pounds and exposure to office lighting and, regular typing, etc. A wide variety of standard office equipment is continually used, including phone, copier, printer and computer. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Occasional travel is required.
