Position Highlights

The Post-doctoral Research Associate will provide support and contribute leadership to various projects at the Water resources Research Center (WRRC) and the Water RAPIDS (Research and Planning Innovations for Dryland Systems) program. The Research Associate will carry out both independent and collaborative research with University of Arizona partners and stakeholders to advance the understanding of water resources topics in Arizona and wider region. The position will require advanced knowledge of geospatial platforms, data management, and science translation for the development of resources to support water managers in their conservation and outreach goals. The successful candidate will have experience applying spatial concepts and technologies in their research and who have exhibited a strong record of independent research. This is a year-to-year appointment, contingent upon funding and performance. This is a grant-funded position with at least 24 months of existing support. The position may be extended depending on availability of funding.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform geospatial research and analysis to support WRRC and Water RAPIDS initiatives, including, but not limited to, water management policy and planning; watershed restoration, management, and planning; and urban water use and conservation
  • Adapt data and information on water supplies, water demands, management tools, scientific concepts, and policy strategies into public outreach materials
  • Prepare maps and figures for research purposes and outreach materials
  • Present information to regional and statewide stakeholder groups and collect information from stakeholders in both formal and informal venues
  • Develop program outreach plans, targeted stakeholder engagement tools and trainings to assist with water planning
    Communicate with and assist key collaborators
  • Write and/or edit materials for academic and general audiences
  • In coordination with project team, seek opportunities for additional funding

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Qualitative and quantitative research synthesis skills,
    including ability to understand and interpret statistical techniques,
    models, and comparative research methods
  • Excellent writing, editing, and oral communications
  • Knowledge of public outreach and stakeholder engagement
  • Advanced knowledge of ArcGIS applications, Microsoft Access,
    Excel, and Powerpoint
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe
    Acrobat software
  • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse array of
    individuals and groups
  • Substantial familiarity with groundwater management and
    Arizona's water policies and planning processes

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD degree in a field with relevance to the position
    description and requirements upon hire
  • Research and/or professional experience in geospatial analysis, policy analysis, and stakeholder engagement methods
