Job Description

Reporting to the Supervisor, Capital Project Manager (SPM), the Assistant Capital
Project Manager (APM) will assist the SPM and Capital Project Managers (PM) with leading the execution of multiple assigned capital outlay projects from conception through completion using a variety of contracting methods. Projects range from moderate to advanced difficulty and complexity. The APM will assist the SPM and PMs with the management and coordination of the project team (Architects/Engineers, consultants, contractors, stakeholders, etc.) to ensure design and construction optimizes university program goals, while conforming to the project's established criteria for scope, cost, schedule and quality. Assist the SPM and PMs with managing assigned projects and coordinating the involvement of all participants in the design, value engineering, document review, construction, occupancy, close out, warranty, and financial management processes.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Architecture, Engineering, or Building Construction; OR training and work experience that demonstrates knowledge of the industry OR that equates to a Bachelor's degree.
- Working knowledge of site/building design and construction processes.
- Must have proficiency with current computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook;
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks, pay attention to detail, and meet critical deadlines;
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively, with a wide range of individuals in a diverse environment;
- Ability to interpret design/construction documents.

Preferred Qualifications

- Understanding of construction project delivery methods.
- Knowledge of construction management software (MS Project, Bluebeam, Primavera, BIM/Revit, LaserFiche, etc.)
- Previous construction experience in a higher education setting.
- Knowledge of the Commonwealth of Virginia Construction and Professional Services Manual (CPSM).

Additional Information

- Work is performed both in office setting and also at construction sites which may
include inclement weather.
- Must be able to travel to construction sites and traverse uneven terrain.
- Must be able to safely move and handle up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, reach, bend, climb, push/pull and perform repetitive motion primarily through use of keyboarding.
- Must have an acceptable and safe driving record.
- Must have a driver's license check.
- May be required to travel to non-Blacksburg work sites with overnight stay required.
- As needed, may be required to be on construction site during off hours.
- May be required to work additional hours or modified work schedule to meet the needs of the department.

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check as well as documentation of COVID-19 vaccination or receive approval from the university for a vaccination exemption due to a medical condition or sincerely held religious belief.
