Thomas Edison State University seeks a full-time Associate Dean; a member of the leadership team of Heavin School of Arts, Sciences and Technology. The Heavin School is the largest school with a student population of about six thousand (6,000), offering more than thirty Associate, Bachelor, and Graduate degree programs and certificates exclusively online. Many of the programs have national recognition for their academic quality and value. The Nuclear Energy Engineering Technology and Electronic Systems Engineering Technology programs are accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET). The School has formed partnerships with several private and government organizations and has received hundreds of thousands of dollars from them for the development and improvement of its programs.
New Jersey is listed among the top ten states for Information Technology jobs, with a high percentage of these employees working in cybersecurity. Projected workforce needs far exceed current capacity. The University responded to this demand by designating cybersecurity as a major academic initiative. The Associate Dean, in addition to his/her role as a senior member of the leadership team in the School, will lead the development and growth of the program with a focused commitment on meeting the statewide and national industry and organization needs.
Under the direction of the Dean, the Associate Dean assists in the general administration of all academic aspects in the school. In the absence of the Dean, the Associate Dean assumes the role of chief academic officer of the school.
The Associate Dean is responsible for organizing, planning, and coordinating curriculum development and implementation, recruitment, retention, strategy development and implementation, research and development activities for the Heavin School of Arts, Sciences and Technology. The Associate Dean works as a liaison with other Schools, programs, coordinators, and administrative offices to facilitate the goals and objectives of the School.
Education: Possession of doctorate degree in an academic discipline with evidence of graduate coursework in cybersecurity or professional experience or certification in the field. The appointing authority will determine the equivalence.
Experience: A minimum of 6 years’ experience as a faculty or/and administrator in a higher education environment or experience in the cybersecurity, computer science or information technology workforce. Experience in developing and managing undergraduate and graduate cybersecurity programs is preferred.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of the (1) current issue, trends and opportunities in cybersecurity required (2) philosophy and practices of higher education and familiarity with the standards, curriculum and policies pertaining to adult learning (3) current issues and trends in adult learning, distance learning and online education
- Ability to (1) work with professional and support staff, and the community at large (2) work at a distance with students, mentors and other professionals (3) use technology to communicate, synthesize information and prepare reports.
Examples of Work:
- Lead and direct the development, implementation, continuous improvement and academic review of undergraduate and graduate degree programs and certificates in Cybersecurity, computer science and related programs.
- Oversee the database infrastructure for the School’s Cybersecurity, computer science and related programs in relation to degree audit evaluations, curriculum management, course equivalencies, course descriptions, mentor database, course information, retention, and other assigned areas.
- Engage in coordinated outreach and support of students to enhance student success and retention.
- Assist the Dean in overseeing academic policies for the School.
- Assist the Dean to develop, implement and direct business/strategic plans for programs.
- Review and respond to information from various departments regarding student evaluations, appropriate degree selections, student appeals and grievances, and other degree program action items as related to the cybersecurity and related programs.
- Gather and analyze data for reports.
- Assist the marketing office with academic content of College publications and external publications relating to the degree programs, including, but not limited to, the College Catalog and web site.
- Lead the writing and managing of grants to fund the enhancement of the School’s programs and curriculum.
- Ensure the high quality, currency and relevance of the cybersecurity and related programs through activities such as periodic academic reviews, continuous improvement based on feedback from industry and government organizational partners, students, alumni and other stakeholders and overseeing the development and implementation of the program's learning outcomes assessment.
- Recruit, approve, and evaluate the quality of consulting mentors for cybersecurity and related programs.
- Develop and implement mentor orientation and communications.
- Participate in outreach and the development of strong alliances with the external community.
- Assist with marketing and recruitment initiatives to foster the growth of cybersecurity and related programs.
- Collaborate with Office of Strategic Partnership, Office of Military Education, Office of Enrollment Management, and other appropriate offices to develop and execute enrollment management strategies and initiatives that promote degree programs to various constituencies.
- Participate in professional organizations as appropriate to maintain currency in the cybersecurity field.
- Represent the School with internal and external audiences through committees, meetings, and conferences.
- Assist the Dean in the supervision of the School’s Assistant Deans and other administrative staff.
- Manage other related projects, duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of Heavin School of Arts, Sciences and Technology.
