The Department of Education at Manhattan College seeks outstanding applicants for a tenure-track faculty appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, with a start date in August 2022. This search is open to candidates specializing in all areas of Special Education. Priority will be given to those with expertise in the areas of 1) Special Education 2) College administrative and graduate teaching experience 3) Elementary/Adolescent classroom experience. Accreditation experience is preferred.
The successful candidate must ascribe to the Lasallian mission, hold a Doctorate in Special Education and have a proven commitment to teaching and advising students. We seek a faculty member with a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring who will create a climate that embraces excellence and diversity in order to attract and retain a diverse, talented student body. Manhattan College and its faculty view research, scholarship, and education as mutually supportive activities. A successful candidate must demonstrate plans for research that integrate teaching and graduate student participation with their scholarly interests. This candidate must also be committed to the teacher-scholar model. Manhattan College Graduate Education faculty are expected to maintain high-quality teaching, an active and productive research program, provide service to the college and community, and apply for external grants when appropriate.

Manhattan College offers master degrees which include: Five Year programs in Childhood or Adolescence Students with Disabilities (BS, BA/MS Ed) as well as M.S.Ed. degrees for individuals who are initially certified in Childhood or Adolescence in English or Math or Social Studies who are seeking Students with Disabilities certification. We also offer a Dual/Childhood Students with Disabilities program for candidates who have limited background in education. In addition, students can earn an Advanced Certificate in Bilingual Education.
Our special education master’s degrees lead to New York State teaching certifications. They blend theory and practical experience, which enhances their understanding and application of content. Multiple opportunities are provided for clinic based experiences, fieldwork and internships with our New York City partner schools including the New York City Department of Education school districts in the Bronx, as well as Yonkers Public Schools and the New York Archdiocese Schools. These placements serve as learning laboratories for our students. Furthermore, collaborations afford opportunities for networking and future employment. Manhattan College organizations for students include Kappa Delta Pi and Council for Exceptional Children.
