Position Information
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering Technology at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of assistant professor in Computer science in all computer science research areas, with preferred emphasis on data science or cybersecurity. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Starting date is negotiable for either Spring 2022 or Fall 2022. UMES is located on the scenic Eastern Shore of Maryland in Princess Anne. As a Doctoral University ranked as the High Research Activity (R2), the Historical Black University offers instruction in 37 undergraduate areas of study as well as 15 master’s degrees and 8 doctoral degree programs. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering Technology offers the following degrees: BS in Computer Science, BS in Engineering Technology, MS in Applied Computer Science, and MS in Cybersecurity Engineering Technology.

Provide instruction in both undergraduate and graduate computer science courses. Engage in scholarly activity. Advise, mentor in research or software development projects. Develop new courses. Provide service to the department, the school, the university, and the community. Performs other related duties assigned by the Department Chair.

Required Qualifications
Doctorate in computer science or a closely related field. Must be able to perform research, teaching, advising, service, and contribute to diversity and equity. Demonstrate the potential for achievement in these areas, including plans for further growth.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in teaching. Although applications will be accepted from candidates with research expertise in all fields represented in the computer science area, a strong preference will be given to candidates with research in data science or cybersecurity.

Strong communication skills, including written communication. Excellence in teaching and a commitment to mentoring students. Competent in research and creative activities.Strong interpersonal skills.
