The Office of Research at The Grainger College of Engineering seeks applicants for the position of Associate Director for Corporate Relations. Reporting to the Director of Corporate Relations, the Associate Director for Corporate Relations will provide leadership and support with internal and external corporate engagement in The Grainger College of Engineering. Corporate Relations sustains multiple activities and programs within the Office of Research aligned with our mission to grow The Grainger College of Engineering research enterprise and to support a culture of research excellence across the college.

Specific duties and responsibilities include: 

  • Maintain and nurture a portfolio of corporate partnerships. Develop and steward strategic relationships between the Grainger College of Engineering and corporate partners, focusing on increasing the quality, depth, and funding level of corporate research and philanthropic engagement. Identify and pursue targeted funding opportunities with these partners, in alignment with the college's strengths in key research areas. Contribute to growth in the corporate-sponsored research expenditures in the college. 
  • Research and identify prospective corporate partnerships. Research companies and identify corporate engagement opportunities independently and work with the Director of Corporate Relations. Evaluate potential leads and identify the most appropriate opportunities to pursue with prospective corporate partners. Grow the breadth of corporate engagement across the college. 
  • Connect Grainger College of Engineering researchers with corporate partners. Maintain necessary relationships and communication pathways within the college to facilitate coordinated and efficient responses to corporate interests. Serve as the contact for engineering faculty and administrators interested in exploring/initiating research relationships with corporations. Organize regular coordination and strategy meetings with relevant college administrators and staff. 
  • Support corporate engagement through campus visits, proposal development, and post-award relationships. Identify, plan, and implement strategic, holistic engagements with key corporate partners. Assist with corporate components of large-scale proposals, leading to grants, contracts, and philanthropic centers. Provide follow-up support for corporate engagement in ongoing sponsored research. 
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 5 years of corporate/external relations or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Business Management/MBA degree.
  • 3 years of experience within a corporate setting.
  • Experience in a public university setting.

Ideal candidates will possess the following:

  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, demonstrated outstanding oral and written communication skills, proven organization skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to converse effectively and interact with both internal and external constituents at multiple levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and support faculty in their pursuit of corporate research activities
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision and take initiative as needed.
  • Previous corporate/vendor/customer relations, university or related experience.
  • Proven ability to lead groups of diverse stakeholders as well as work well with others across departments and across campus.
  • Superb attention to details.
  • Marketing communications skills.
  • Interest and experience with technical/computer systems information & tools.

Environmental Demands:

  • Work outside the typical hours of the standard workday may be required, including evenings and occasional weekends.

The Associate Director for Corporate Relations position is a full-time, benefits-eligible academic professional position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Applicants may be interviewed before the closing date; however, no hiring decision will be made until after that date. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
