Job Description

Uses approved procedures to milk cows for optimum yield, milk quality, and cow health. Identifies animals treated with antibiotics and keeps that milk out of the human food supply. Assures proper operation of milking and milk storage equipment. Mix diets (rations) for dairy animals according to research, teaching or herd management protocol. Maintain and operate feed mix wagon, feed carts, silo unloaders, conveyors, etc. Cleans and properly disposes of manure from housing lots according to our nutrient management plan. Performs research treatment as called for and collects data and samples. Teaches, trains and supervises students in the proper procedures for all of the above.

Required Qualifications

Two-year degree or equivalent training and experience; Knowledge of general dairy husbandry and milking procedures. Ability to operate farm equipment and knowledge of milking and milk storage equipment; Ability to follow precise research and teaching protocols; Operate large farm equipment; Able to perform heavy manual labor, handle mature dairy animals, and work in adverse weather conditions; Ability to communicate proper procedures to students.
