The Associate Director of Annual Giving works collaboratively with the Executive Director of Institutional Advancement to create, implement and manage a comprehensive Annual Giving Program that is aligned with the mission and priorities of National Louis University (NLU). The Associate Director manages the operations to ensure data integrity, an intelligent segmentation strategy, and the timely completion of projects to maximize engagement and fundraising results. 
Primary Responsibilities and Outcomes:
  • Annual Giving Campaigns: Manage all facets of the Annual Giving Program with a major focus on fundraising and engagement campaigns (print mail, email, peer-to-peer, and social media) and in-person stewardship activities. The goal is to increase donor retention, participation and annual donations across all audiences by employing compelling messaging and innovative multi-channel outreach, and using data to make informed decisions to create a pipeline of donors from the general to mid-level to major donors. Manage external vendor(s), temporary staff and/or volunteers in the execution of campaigns. 
  • Planning and Strategy: Develop a comprehensive Annual Giving Program plan; set and monitor fundraising goals; and create, implement, evaluate, and continuously refine strategies and programs for successful fundraising with each constituency. 
  • Stewardship/Donor Experience: Implement a robust donor experience plan coupling a responsive acknowledgement process (stewardship of gifts to NLU) with a best-in-class donor experience program to increase donor retention and support (number of gifts/amounts) and move donors along the giving pipeline. Provide logistical support for various giving societies’ events and manage the societies’ communications plans, in partnership with Institutional Advancement colleagues. Maintain a portfolio of donors capable of annual gifts up to $5,000.
Competencies, Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree, required
  • 3-5 years of related experience, preferably in Higher Education and/or annual giving
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word and Excel, required
  • Experience with CRMs (preferably Salesforce), required
  • Analytical Skills: Breaks down problems and issues into sub–components and then assesses the costs, benefits and risks of various options prior to selecting a particular approach. 
  • Strategic Thinking: Can analyze organizational strengths and weaknesses and then combine these with knowledge of the industry, market and organization to develop long-term strategy. 
  • Results Oriented: Achieves results within established timelines. Understands and demonstrates that intentions, activities and results are not the same. Expects that obstacles will occur and refuses to use them as an excuse for not achieving results. 
  • Project/Task Management: Manages each stage of a project to ensure that commitments are met in a manner that is timely and within budget. Clearly defines roles and responsibilities, determines necessary resources and monitors project performance through appropriate systems and procedures.
