Job Description:

Dean College is seeking an energetic, innovative, and entrepreneurial VPAA who is eager and willing to work diligently to guide the academic affairs of the College toward excellence in teaching and learning that prepares Dean graduates for meaningful careers and lives of purpose. A person with the courage to envision and implement change with authenticity and creativity and to lead a dedicated and talented faculty and staff to the next level of teaching and learning will find fulfillment and reward in providing the leadership that will enable Dean College to continue its trajectory in becoming a leader among small, liberal arts, baccalaureate institutions.

The Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA) reports to the President and serves as Chief Academic Officer. The Vice President is a member of an innovative senior leadership team; provides leadership and management to all academic units; oversees the ongoing review of curriculum and assessment; and provides vision and strategic leadership as an agent of innovation and change. The Vice President directs and manages the curriculum strategic planning process, accreditation and state degree approval processes and ensures that the College curriculum reflects the Mission of the College. The VPAA oversees the School of the Arts, the Dean R. Sanders '47 School of Business, the Joan Phelps Palladino School of Dance and the School of Liberal Arts.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Directs all matters relating to curriculum and instruction;
  • Motivates, mentors, and leads the Academic Affairs division including the school deans, faculty, and staff;
  • Oversees administrative policy, staffing and budgets for all academic programs;
  • Identifies and leads the development and implementation of innovative curriculum, assessment, teaching and learning delivery initiatives in accordance with institutional goals;
  • Develops and advances all strategic and operational plans for Academic Affairs;
  • Oversees the development, implementation and assessment of faculty development and performance initiatives;
  • Oversees the implementation of Academic Affairs enrollment and retention planning in concert with Admissions and Student Development;
  • Directs other duties as assigned.


  1. Terminal degree (PhD/EdD/MFA) and record of college teaching excellence experience required;
  2. 10-15 years senior management experience in higher education required;
  3. Prior experience with development and delivery of curriculum for undergraduate students including experience managing accreditation application and approval processes;
  4. Experience managing budgets and corresponding academic planning including developing of new degree programs, incorporating appropriate instructional technology, and creating and implementing innovative curriculum and delivery systems;
  5. Experience with, and a demonstrated passion for, providing transformational learning experiences for a diverse population of undergraduates at varying stages of academic readiness.
