Frostburg State University, Department of Mathematics, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Instructor / Assistant Professor of Mathematics position to begin Fall 2022. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications; University System of Maryland benefits package included.
The Department of Mathematics is located in the state-of-the-art Gira Center for Communications and Information Technology, opened in 2014. We support a number of academic programs in addition to serving approximately 70 students who major or minor in Mathematics. Upcoming developments in the department include implementation of a corequisite model to support students who have been assessed as not college ready in mathematics. We are also beginning coordination efforts regarding our general education offerings to facilitate that corequisite model. Our coordination model will involve feedback from all of our faculty.
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) includes the Department of Mathematics. Responsibilities: Teach a variety of undergraduate Mathematics courses from introductory to advanced. In particular, teach courses designed for pre-service elementary & middle education students. Advise majors. Assist with program assessment and development of materials to support active learning. Support STEM education outreach programs. Teach in coordinated general education offerings. Active participation in departmental and University service and development of a program of scholarship that includes undergraduate students are expected.
Minimum Qualifications: ABD or Doctorate in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or closely related field required. Must be committed to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population.
If selected candidate is ABD, they will be hired at the rank of Instructor, with the requirement that the candidate finish the doctoral degree within the first year of employment.
The department is especially interested in candidates with a clear potential for an inclusive and student-centered teaching style. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to contribute positively to a collegial environment required. Early-career candidates with interest in teaching at a regional comprehensive university are strongly encouraged to apply.
