Job DescriptionThe Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at Syracuse University is seeing a part-time instructor(s) to teach 3-credit sections of ENL for non-native speakers in the Spring 2022 semester which begins January 18, 2022 (appointment begins on January 11, 2022). Offer is contingent upon sufficient enrollment. This position requires both in-person and synchronous online teaching.
ENL 202 - Students review grammar and practice speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
ENL 203 - Speaking/listening focused on academic and social situations. Intensive work on note-taking and the sounds, stress, rhythm, and intonation of English, practiced in group work and presentations.
ENL 207 - An integrated-skills course for advanced non-native speakers of English.
ENL 211 - Expository writing and reading. Students develop an awareness of the cultural and discourse expectations in written English, through reading and responding to articles on a variety of topics and writing essays of increasing complexity.
ENL 213 - Development of critical reading and thinking skills used in scholarly research in a variety of disciplines. Students learn to summarize, synthesize, critique, and document, and use library resources effectively.
QualificationsMaster's Degree in TESOL or Applied Linguistics with a TESOL Concentration required. Experience in university-level TESOL instruction preferred.

ResponsibilitiesIt is understood that teaching assignments may include:
- Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
- Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
- Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
- Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
- Meeting all designated class periods.
- Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
- Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
- Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
- Building a positive rapport with students and faculty.
- Attending program meetings.
- Other responsibilities as indicated by the ESOL Assistant Professors.
