Job Summary

The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate courses included but not limited to: CAD, fluid and mechanical systems, materials science, robotics, advanced manufacturing processes, and management techniques. This position requires a high level of technical expertise with teaching or experience in robotics, manufacturing processes, ergonomics, machining, 3D printing, along with advanced skills in parametric modeling and other industry software programs. Candidates should show excellence and enthusiasm in teaching a variety of lower and upper level courses for students in the Technological Studies programs. Additional duties in service of the University's general education curriculum are encouraged. Applicants should demonstrate effectiveness in initiating research projects related to their area of expertise, and advising undergraduate students both in and outside the classroom. Service on program, school, college, and university committees, and activity in their professional field is expected. Additionally, the candidate will assume responsibility for upkeep of labs and applications for the courses assigned. The standard teaching load for this position is twelve contact hours per semester. Rank commensurate with experience and credentials. 

Scope

The Manufacturing Technology, Construction Management, and Technology Education programs in the School of Science, Technology, and Mathematics seeks to fill a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Technological Studies, to begin in August 2022.

Required Skills

Knowledge of current educational strategies, particularly those high impact practices that support close mentored work with students. Applicants should demonstrate a strong potential for independent research, good interpersonal skills, and a collaborative approach.

Minimum Qualifications

Advanced degree in technology, engineering, or a related discipline, and some teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in technology, engineering, or a related discipline (ABD candidates will be considered). Teaching experience in a formalized setting.

College Description

Courses in Technological Studies are designed to prepare students for careers in professional and technical fields throughout industry and education. Classroom activities feature application-oriented experiences that reinforce the theory presented in lecture and readings to provide broad, foundational experiences in cutting edge technologies and applied sciences. Course work and associated laboratory assignments place emphasis on researching, designing, experimenting, fabricating, and management. Programs are accredited by the Association for Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE) and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

Technological Studies resides within the School of Science, Technology, and Mathematics in the Getty College of Arts & Sciences. Programs emphasize rigorous academics combined with hands-on experience in the student's chosen field. Small class sizes and close mentored relationships with engaged faculty members are hallmarks of ONU programs in the school of Science, Technology, and Mathematics.
