Job Summary

The Research & Assessment Librarian, under general supervision, serves as a member of the Research & Assessment department. This individual will participate in the library's information literacy program and facilitate and design the library's assessment activities in collaboration with librarians and other library staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach and promote the library's instructional program based on goals and strategies derived from professional library standards and frameworks for information literacy.
  • Collaborate with others and work individually to produce and maintain a variety of informational and instructional materials such as online tutorials and reference guides.
  • Collaborate with university faculty, staff, and students to promote and integrate information literacy.
  • Facilitate and assist in the design of assessment activities in collaboration with librarians and library staff.
  • Assist in the development of assessment strategies for the library's instructional program in collaboration with librarians in Research & Assessment.
  • Conduct research consultations.
  • Serve as the library contact for University related assessment activities
  • Serve as a liaison to academic departments.
  • Attend meetings, participate in special projects, and serve on committees relating to the library, the University, and consortia, as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
  • Education - Master's degree in Library Science or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Experience - Two years of related experience
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Experience designing and administering information literacy instruction and incorporating best pedagogical approaches to information literacy.
  • Familiarity with current and emerging trends in librarianship, specifically information literacy instruction and collection resources designed to support assigned liaison areas.
  • Experience with or interest in critical pedagogy.
  • Experience or familiarity with: Media creation (video, audio, and visual); Teaching through Learning Management Systems (Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, etc.); and Open educational resources (OER).
Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:
  • Word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Information literacy practices, including familiarity with the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
  • Case-based teaching, flipped classrooms and/or other active teaching methods
Ability to:
  • Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, presentation, and research skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Use basic print and electronic reference tools.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.

Starting Salary: $52,000
