Full/Associate Professor of Latina Latino Studies

Latina Latino Studies Department

The Department of Latina/Latino Studies at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign invites applications to fill a full-time tenured Full/Associate Professor. We seek a tenured professor or tenured associate professor in the interdiscipline of Latina/Latino Studies, broadly construed. We are particularly interested in scholars who work across one or more of these areas: Afro-Latinidades, Afro-indigenous studies, and relational ethnic studies. Areas of special consideration include but not are not limited to queer of color critique, disability studies, and environmental justice. Candidates with a documented commitment to working with students or faculty from groups historically marginalized or underrepresented in the field through teaching, mentoring, or administration are especially encouraged to apply.

STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Successful candidates are expected to establish and maintain an active and independent research program, teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and provide service to the department, the university and the profession. Applicants must have an excellent record in research, teaching and service. Target start date is August 16, 2022 or negotiable. Salary commensurate with rank and qualifications.

The candidate will join a collaborative department with colleagues from varied disciplinary backgrounds, including 9 graduate faculty members, 17 affiliate faculty, 2 postdoctoral fellows, and 2 specialized faculty members. The department supports undergraduate major, minor, and graduate certificate programs. As one of the first departments of Latina/Latino Studies in the country, we have been pushing the boundaries of the field for 25 years.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Rank of Full or Associate Professor. PhD
  • PhD or equivalent degree in Latina/Latino Studies, Ethnic Studies, or related field required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applicants must have a strong record in research, teaching, and service in Latina/Latino Studies, Ethnic Studies, or a related field.

SALARY

Salary will be commensurate with experience.

APPOINTMENT STATUS

This is a 100 % time 9 month appointment.

PROPOSED START DATE

Preferred start date is 8/16/2022 or negotiable.
