Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Reports to the Director, Center for Student Success
  • Evaluates and interprets disability documentation for eligibility determination
  • Implements reasonable accommodations consistent with current law
  • Complies with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations
  • Meets with prospective students and current students to discuss accommodations and evaluate and interpret disability documentation to determine eligibility for accommodations
  • Advocates on behalf of students with faculty and staff to improve communication and ensure proper adherence of accommodations
  • Coordinates accommodations including testing accommodations, note takers and sign language interpreters
  • Collaborates with the Center for Accessibility regarding technology needs such as: alternative academic material formats, texts, assistive technology, etc.
  • Meets with area high school Child Study teams to assist with student enrollment
  • Recruits, hires and monitors time for personnel who provide accommodations
  • Represents college at activities related to disabled students
  • Coordinates services for students with temporary disabilities
  • Develops and implements retention initiatives
  • Provides academic, career, social/personal and transfer counseling individually and in groups for program participants, students enrolled in the Academy of Culinary Arts (ACA) and the general student population
  • Utilizes Ellucian CRM Advise to document services and communicate with students
  • Maintains accurate student files, updates database system
  • Makes appropriate referrals
  • Works with external organizations that provide support and resources for students with disabilities
  • Maintains appropriate documentation for state and local reports
  • Prepares and submits reports in a timely manner
  • Administers and interprets various assessment instruments including the LASSI and Career Coach 
  • Monitors the academic status of program participants
  • Conducts orientation sessions for new students,
  • Maintains current information for assigned transfer colleges
  • Facilitates seminars and workshops on various topics relevant to student development
  • Attends and reports on activities at advisory board meetings
  • Participates in professional development activities
  • Serves on appointed college committees
  • Identifies and implements best practices within the field
  • Performs other duties as assigned



  • Master's degree in counseling, student personnel services, psychology, sociology, social work or related field
  • LCSW or counselor certification preferred


  • Minimum of three years of significant experience working with the disabled population, preferably in a higher education environment
  • Demonstrated experience handling crisis situations

Competencies and Skills:

  • Strong communication skills and computer literacy

Terms of Employment:

This position may require flexible scheduling to include evenings and weekends and duties at any Atlantic Cape locations.
