Position Highlights

The Division of the CIO within The University of Arizona is looking to hire two (2) Digital Content Specialists. The Digital Content Specialist develops and sustains a user-centered content strategy for the Division of the CIO, guiding the creation and delivery of content across communication channels, with a focus on digital and web content. As a member of the Communications & Marketing team, this role will work independently and with other teams in the Division to gather, write, edit, and organize content on multiple online platforms. The Digital Content Specialist will be responsible for managing the CIO's public-facing web presence and other websites within its portfolio as well as oversee website analytics. This role will establish content workflows to ensure that content meets both user needs and organizational goals. The Digital Content Specialist will also consult with stakeholders on content provided through tutorials, social media channels, digital and print signage, and promotional material.

This position provides the flexibility to work remotely within the state of Arizona.

The Division of CIO is a $70 M organization of approximately 300 employees responsible for providing enterprise network, telecommunications, computing, and data services to the University of Arizona. It offers a broad array of services to the university community ranging from deploying and managing the campus' wired and wireless networks to stewardship of the administrative applications that support the HR, payroll, finance, and student lifecycle management activities of the institution. Also, it recently unveiled its next-generation high performance computing environment to support the computationally intensive needs of UA research faculty.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain a
    content strategy across multiple digital channels. Assess and improve
    content workflows and other processes. Ensure branding consistency by
    maintaining and improving the CIO Division's content style guide, content
    principles, and voice and tone guidelines.
  • Serve as a point person for CIO Division
    stakeholders on content-related issues, troubleshooting and providing
    solutions, advice, and feedback. Collaborate with Campus Web Services on
    enhancements to our Drupal website(s) to best support content strategy.
  • Create, revise, and copyedit content so that
    it is user-friendly, inclusive, and accessible. Draft and publish updated
    content, including re-writing and re-organizing content across the website
    and other channels.
  • Evaluate existing content and information
    architecture through user research and analysis, by using content audits,
    surveys, user interviews, and web analytics.
  • Engage in cross-departmental content projects
    within the Division of the CIO on behalf of the Communications and
    Marketing team with Campus Web Services, and other internal and external
    stakeholder groups.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field (e.g. Communication, Journalism, Linguistics, Human-Computer Interaction, Information Science, Media Studies).
  • 3 years relevant experience (e.g. managing web content, developing a content strategy, writing, editing, marketing, communications).
  • OR, any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience writing clear, inclusive, accessible content across multiple communication channels using AP style.
  • Experience working in Drupal or other content management systems.
  • Experience with web analytics tools (e.g. Siteimprove, Google Analytics).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of best practices for creating content for the web
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clear, accessible content, with a good grasp of English grammar, and understanding of AP style.
  • Commitment to usability, user-centered design, inclusive design, and accessibility.
  • Knowledge of web navigation and information architecture patterns and best practices.
  • Familiarity with web accessibility standards.
  • Interpersonal, relationship management, and consulting skills, including the ability to collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative and inclusive environment.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience working with multiple teams and project to manage website content across a large, complex organization.

* Experience copyediting content, providing content recommendations, or guiding or training others in their writing.

* Experience conducting user research to inform decision making.
