Position Highlights

Facilities Management is looking to fill an Insulator/Pipe Coverer in our Plumbing Shop. The successful candidate will possess Journeyman field experience in performing insulation work on various forms of commercial piping installations including chilled water, steam, hot water, and steam condensate lines. This position requires experience and familiarity with all forms of insulating material and their applications including indoor and outdoor projects. The candidate should be well versed in the estimating process including pricing and procurement of materials and the estimating of labor hours related to in-house projects. This position provides insulation support to plumbers, pipe-fitters, all Renovation Services, new installations, repairs and replacement projects.
Note: All maintenance employees are required to drive University vehicles on a daily basis as one of their primary job functions.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Applies insulating materials to exposed surfaces of equipment boilers, tanks, hot or cold air ducts or pipes and steam generators for the purpose of insulating, protecting or dampening.
  • Lays out, cuts, forms and shapes insulation.
  • Applies cements, foams and adhesives to insulation.
  • Estimates material and labor for in-house renovation and maintenance projects. Knowledge of the methods and materials for insulating.
  • Skill in fabricating, laying out and installing insulation. Ability to effectively communicate.
  • Other duties as necessary to serve our customers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Journeyman level position. Completion of a high school education or an equivalent combination of apprenticeship program, technical training and/or experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a 4 year technical training program (steamfitter, plumber, or equivalent).
  • FLSA: Non-Exempt
