Description of Work Unit

The Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences (ERHS) houses academic, research and clinical programs that address the promotion of human and animal health. The mission of the department is to deliver excellent education in environmental and radiological health to prepare students to contribute to society; to conduct state of the art research in human and animal health focusing on environmental exposures and clinical applications; and to promote excellence in outreach and service to the citizens of Colorado, the United States, and globally through information transfer, research, continuing education and technical assistance. ERHS is unique in its multi-factorial approach to disease that involves chemical, physical, and biological factors. ERHS provides undergraduate and graduate programs leading to BS, MS and PhD degrees.

Position Summary

The Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (VDI) service located in the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Colorado State University is seeking veterinary radiologists for locum positions in small animal imaging. These positions are flexible and week-long, single day and partial day locums will be considered. In-person and virtual locums will be considered. The VDI service will work with the applicant's preference for modality coverage; modalities include small animal ultrasound, radiograph, CT and MRI. Interested parties do not need a Colorado license. Successful applicants will be employed by CSU as hourly employees at an appropriate rate and must reside in the U.S. Successful applicants must be authorized for employment in the U.S.

Duties include resident training and oversight, correcting resident reports, attending resident rounds, and interacting with ordering services. Depending on the modality assigned, the radiologist will be required to provide interpretation of radiographic studies, perform and interpret special procedures/contrast studies, perform and interpret ultrasound studies, and interpret CT and MRI studies alongside our team of 7 residents.

VDI provides imaging services to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (radiography, ultrasound, CT, MRI imaging of veterinary patients.)


Position Minimum Qualifications
  • DVM or equivalent veterinary professional degree
  • Board certification in ACVR or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications

Post-residency experience in small animal diagnostic imaging.

This position will provide interpretation of imaging studies in writing and in conversation with ordering services.

This Position will edit resident reports of imaging studies.

This position will provide technologists and residents with guidance when further images are required, as well as guide residents in their interpretation of images and acquisition of images.

This position may perform ultrasound studies and may be the primary/sole
interpreter on some imaging reports.
