Position Summary

The Wells School of Music at West Chester University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Instructor or Assistant Professor of Studio Composition position within the new Studio Composition Bachelor of Music program. The position will begin in August 2022.

The Wells School of Music serves approximately 450 students with 60 faculty, enjoys full NASM membership, and offers fully accredited undergraduate and graduate degrees in Music Education, Music Performance, Jazz Performance, Music Composition, Music History, Music Theory, and Music Therapy. 

Responsibilities include:
  • Teaching Scoring for Film and Media, Scoring Video Games, Studio Production, and Music Entrepreneurship
  • Advising senior projects in Studio Composition
  • Maintaining activity in creative and/or commercial endeavors
  • Securing and overseeing student internships with local and regional music production studios
  • Academic advising of students
  • Serving the university and the community through participation in various committees.
  • Additional responsibilities may include teaching Songwriting and music theory/musicianship courses; leading the Studio Music Ensemble; and overseeing the usage of the Center for Music Technology.
The typical course load involves teaching 12 credits per semester.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A Master's degree in Music
  • Demonstrated record of active achievement in scoring for film, media, and /or video games
  • Demonstrated experience in recording techniques and studio production.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience teaching at college level
  • Demonstrated potential for innovative curriculum development

Starting rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate's education and experience.
