Primary Duties and Responsibilities:The School of Occupational Therapy at Belmont University is seeking applications for a 10- month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to serve as Doctoral Capstone Coordinator for the OTD program beginning August 1, 2022.

This position is responsible for teaching in the area of content expertise (mental health, psychosocial, community-based practice, Capstone planning and Capstone project seminars) to assist occupational therapy students with learning and the application of knowledge needed for entry-level practice in accordance with accreditation standards and the curriculum. This position engages in service and scholarly activities and supports the mission and vision of the university. This position is provided with direct supervision from and works in collaboration with the OTD and MSOT Program Director and Chair of the Occupational Therapy Program.

Knowledge Requirements:
  • Knowledge of principles, methods and current developments in the field of OT study. Expertise in the clinical areas of pediatrics, psychosocial intervention, adult intervention, and/or gerontology although those with other areas of expertise will be considered.
  • Knowledge of clinical OT and community health settings in the greater Nashville area and ability to develop networks across the country.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques including the ability to use technology to construct and deliver synchronous and asynchronous education in virtual and live environments.
  • Knowledge of the OTD program and related services offered by Belmont University. Interest and ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary clinical settings.
  • Knowledge of current trends in areas of OT practice.
  • Knowledge of and strict adherence to the AOTA Code of Ethics.
  • Knowledge of and strict adherence to the ACOTE Doctoral Capstone requirements.
Skill and Abilities:
  • Skills for evaluation of the impact of clinical teaching on the teaching-learning process and implement modifications as appropriate.
  • Skills to coordinate with fieldwork supervisors in constructive and cooperative working relationships with community-based therapists, clinics, and community agencies.
  • Skills in entry or maintenance of information in written and electronic/ form.
  • Skills in logical and critical thinking to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problem.
  • Skills in flexibility and openness to change.
  • Skills in interpreting and acting upon recommendations identified in course and program evaluation.
  • Skills in the use of computers, Internet resources, and MS Office software and databases Ability to prepare reports using statistics for internal and external audiences.
  • Oral Comprehension - The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Oral Expression - The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
  • Written Expression - The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
  • Written Comprehension - The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • Problem Sensitivity - The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • Deductive Reasoning - The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Inductive Reasoning - The ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
  • Information ordering - The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern, according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g. patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).
  • Speech Clarity - The ability to speak clearly so others can understand you.
  • Speech Recognition - The ability to identify and understand the speech of another person.
  • Ability to coordinate all capstone projects in the OTD program.
  • Ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students for capstone planning and projects
  • Ability to learn relevant sections of Belmont University's online integrated database system for student grading, (BannerWeb) and Belmont's learning management system (Blackboard).
  • Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.
  • Ability to successfully interact with students, clinical fieldwork supervisors, other educators and institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Required Education OTD, EdD, Ph.D. or significant progress toward a terminal degree is required;

Required Experience Teaching experience strongly preferred.
