Job Description

The Department of Art & Art History invites applications for a full time, non-tenure earning position at the Assistant Professor level effective August 1, 2022. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate students in the B.A., B.F.A., and M.A.E. programs. The department invites applications for this position with a specialization in digital art and design within a broad creative practice. The search committee is interested in reviewing applicants whose work engages with several of the following areas: animation, interactive design, motion graphics, digital fabrication, or other digital and design-related fields. This artist/practitioner will teach six courses per year from the foundations to advanced levels. Led by engaged scholars and educators who are recognized nationally and internationally for their intellectual and creative research, art and art history faculty work closely with students to ensure the understanding of their potential to impact the world through their study of historical and contemporary art and design.

We are searching for an innovative and inclusive teacher that has a strong commitment to enhancing cross-disciplinary collaborations that will support the school's goals with respect to diversity and inclusion. The successful candidate will be required to maintain office hours to meet with students, contribute to the function and educational objectives of the program and department, provide service to the college, university, community, and the profession, and perform all duties as assigned. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Required Qualifications
  • MFA in visual arts or terminal degree.
  • Experience managing computer lab equipment and studio facilities.
  • Evidence of strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Competency in advanced digital media as well as video and editing.
  • Successful candidates will show evidence of deep knowledge in several areas of graphic and interactive design.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience at the university level in animation, interactive design, motion graphics, web design and social media management.
  • An understanding in the practice of animation, motion graphics, interactive design.
  • Ability to adapt course materials to teach in diverse college units including African American Studies or Gender Studies.
  • Evidence of experience supporting and convening community engagement in the visual arts.
