Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in exercise science or a related discipline. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, and all requirements for the degree must be completed by September 15, 2022. Candidates whose degree is in a related discipline must demonstrate academic experience and credentials to be considered applicable for designation as core exercise science faculty.
  • Demonstrated ability/potential to provide effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Record of scholarly productivity in Exercise Science or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)
  • Evidence of mentorship of master's level and undergraduate students.

Description of the Department or Unit

The Exercise Science program is housed in the Department of Health and Exercise Science ( HES) and is located within the Beaver College of Health Sciences ( BCHS). HES comprises nationally accredited and recognized programs including the Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science, Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health, Master of Science degree in Athletic Training, and the Master of Science degree in Exercise Science. The Exercise Science program is the largest program with the Beaver College of Health Sciences. The program currently supports twenty-two faculty (seventeen tenured or tenure-track) with diverse research interests.

The Beaver College of Health Sciences ( BCHS) is transforming the health and quality of life for the communities we serve through interprofessional collaboration and innovation in teaching, scholarship, service, and clinical outreach. Our academic programs are housed in two locations: the Holmes Convocation Center on the main campus and Leon Levine Hall of Health Sciences, a state-of-the-art, 203,000 square foot facility that is the cornerstone of the Wellness District. In addition, the college supports the Blue Cross NC Institute for Health and Human Services and has collaborative partnerships with the Wake Forest School of Medicine's Physician Assistant Program, Appalachian Regional Health System, and numerous other health agencies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate core courses in the Exercise Science program. Courses may include physiological assessment, anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology, and exercise prescription.
  • Conducting and maintaining an active line of research.
  • Mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in research and scholarly activities.
  • Participating in service activities for the department, university, community, and professional organizations.
