Assistant Professor of Biology

The Department of Natural Sciences (DNS) at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in cell biology. DNS houses the biology, chemistry, biochemistry, and environmental science undergraduate programs and graduate programs in chemistry, marine-estuarine and environmental sciences, and toxicology.

We seek candidates who have the capacity to teach to a diverse student population and prepare students broadly for futures in graduate and professional schools. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate introductory biology courses, immunology, graduate level immunotoxicology, and/or courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Research expertise may focus on the impacts of environmental signals/factors/contaminants on organismal cell, developmental, or immune responses using integrated molecular and physiological techniques using model animal systems, such as zebrafish.

Successful candidates will have demonstrated experience in cell and molecular biology, including cell, developmental, or immune response to environmental factors, immune cell development, cancer development, or cellular networks in cell response, preferably incorporating proteomic or metabolomic approaches. Applicants must have a PhD in biology or related disciplines, a record of accomplishment in publishing, and teaching experience and training to support student success.

Candidates will develop an independent research program, train graduate students in the department’s Toxicology and Marine-Estuarine and Environmental Sciences programs and contribute to departmental and program self-governance.
