Position Summary

The Orthopaedic Research laboratory is seeking a hardworking, dependable, dedicated part-time non-student hourly who would like to gain or use valuable laboratory experience in a research setting. Under the direction of the lab manager, the person will perform an array of laboratory work. Examples include weighing chemicals, preparing solutions, sterile filtration/autoclaving, laboratory equipment upkeep and maintenance of laboratory spaces. In addition, participation in sample collection and management for research studies, assistance with biosafety, perform biochemical assays, participate in endpoint collections, as well as a variety of histological techniques.

Position Minimum Qualifications

Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills are required. Interpersonal and communication skills are necessary. The willingness to learn new techniques is essential. Ideally a senior or graduate with a bachelors of science in a related biology or chemistry field. Experience pipetting, centrifuging and assisting in routine laboratory procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience working in a research laboratory and participation in animal studies, ability to assist in study sample collections, provide support during study endpoints, perform biochemical assays and histological staining, familiar with microscopy and completion of upper undergraduate or graduate level coursework.

Job Duty Category: Sample Prep


Assist in preparation and ongoing study sample collections and endpoints. Prepare materials and participate in the study collection timepoints and endpoints. Do so by assisting in the processing of fluids and other collection materials as instructed and at variable times. Your participation provides extra hands to efficiently perform time sensitive aspects of each study.

Job Duty Category: Histological Analysis


Assist in the ongoing histological analysis of specimens. This would include the collection, processing, embedding and sectioning of specimens that need histological analysis. In addition, imaging of slides and staining of tissues.

Job Duty Category: Lab Support


Complete laboratory housekeeping and duties as needed. Including but not limited to the cleaning of cell culture rooms, maintenance of equipment, assisting in the biosafety related upkeep of the lab and preparation of common solutions. Completing special projects needing laboratory knowledge.
