Description of Work Unit

Position will function as a part of the Warner College Technology Services team, linked to the Warner College Dean's Office. Warner College of Natural Resources (WCNR) Technology Services offers a variety of computer technology support to WCNR academic unit faculty and staff. The support services offered include endpoint computing (desktop/laptop) technical assistance, research computation server management, network storage, communication/collaboration technology support, and instructional technology services.

Position Summary

This full-time Administrative Professional position's primary responsibility is management of endpoint computer support for faculty, staff, and students.

This position requires someone who is reliable, responsible, ethical, and able to complete tasks with a team and independently with minimal supervision. The Endpoint Computing Support Manager must be comfortable working with different user bases such as students, faculty, staff, and administration.

The Endpoint Computing Support manager will make decisions regarding endpoint computer support to solve problems. This includes determining the development of policy and procedures related to endpoint computing support services, desktop computer configuration and specifications and advising faculty and staff on endpoint computing technical solutions.

This position will be instrumental in making recommendations for new hardware and software upgrades/purchases. This position will share in policy decision-making for user and security policies while abiding by the existing on-campus IT governance structure and college policies. Due to the accessibility to sensitive information, this position will need to balance ethical, technical, legal requirements and policy requirements and make decisions on access and restrictions to such data. The position will also be empowered to make rapid decisions during times of system failure or outages to enhance/retain service availability.


Required Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or related field plus three years of full-time professional computer support experience
    • Substitution: Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field plus five years of full-time professional computer support experience
  • Knowledge and experience with configuring and maintaining Microsoft Windows and Apple macOS computers in a networked environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with constituents representing wide variability in technological understanding
  • The position may also require bending and lifting up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis without assistance.
  • Experience supervising technical professional staff
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Experience providing desktop computer support in an academic environment
  • Experience supervising and managing a team of student employees
  • Working knowledge of iOS and/or Android-based devices
  • Experience with cloud-based communication and collaboration services such as Microsoft 365
  • Experience with implementation and administration of Active Directory group policies
  • Experience integrating computers with Azure Active Directory
  • Experience creating and managing collections and device imaging with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager or equivalent

Job Duty Category: Management of Endpoint Computing Support Service and Support Systems

Duty/Responsibility

Manage endpoint computing support services and systems for designated college departments. Management activities of services and system includes:

* Evaluate, recommend and implement configurations, technologies or other changes to improve processes or meet organizational and user needs for endpoint computing.
* Develop and maintain new college faculty and staff information technology and services onboarding procedures and documentation.
* Develop and maintain endpoint computing support staff on-boarding and training materials.
* Ensure the college has a functioning help desk ticketing system and that tickets are assigned to staff in a timely manner, support is completed, and review support solutions provided to ensure consistent and appropriate support is provided.
* Design, implement and administer Active Directory group policies for user and system preferences, security and reporting.
* As an Office 365 Resource Coordinator, provision Office 365 communication and collaboration services for college faculty and staff as requested. Maintain college Office 365 email distribution lists, room resources, and shared mailbox accounts.
* Manage the college commercial cloud-based endpoint computing backup configuration.
* Configure and maintain college print server(s) for supported departments.
Endpoint computing support services and systems provided to ensure faculty and staff endpoint computing needs are met in support the teaching, research, and service mission of the college.

Job Duty Category: Endpoint Computing Technical Support Services

Duty/Responsibility

Provide endpoint computing support to faculty and staff in designated departments. Endpoint computing support includes:

* Desktop and laptop purchasing recommendation/consultation service
* Microsoft Windows and macOS operating system installation and updates
* Software application installation
* Commercial cloud-based computer backup service configuration
* Desktop and laptop network integration
* Technology in WCNR conference and class rooms
* Provide non-computer lab scanning and printing technology management and support for the Office of the Dean to ensure a scanning and printing capability.
* Provide support for iOS and Android-based devices for faculty and staff to ensure they have access College IT resources.
* Provide IT on-boarding for new college faculty and staff

Endpoint computing support services are provided to ensure faculty and staff endpoint computing technical support needs are met in support the teaching, research, and service mission of the college.

Job Duty Category: Supervision

Duty/Responsibility

Supervise endpoint computing support staff which includes administrative professional and student hourly staff to ensure quality support is provided.

Supervision activities also include:
* Hiring new student staff when needed.
* Train staff on process and procedures
* Assign support requests to endpoint computing support staff.
* Perform quality control of support provided by endpoint computing support staff.

* Performs all other duties that may affect or improve the operations and/or directions of College technology services.
* Assists the Director of Technology Services as needed.
