Our Team:

The Budget and Finance Team within the SC Johnson College of Business supports strategic and transactional financial operations across our three schools, our central college unit and the Statler Hotel across our two campuses in Ithaca and NYC. This team consists of individuals who take a progressive approach to financial planning and reporting, utilizing data-driven techniques and tools to support our College's mission and enhance our organizational effectiveness.

This Position:

Under the general direction of the Associate Director and as a highly engaged and collaborative member of the greater finance team, the Finance & Budget Representative will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and leadership within the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business to plan and execute financial activities primarily for the Hotel School and central College assigned units supporting non-sponsored funding. With that being said, this position will require strong communication and collaboration with leadership, budget owners, and business partners.

The Budget and Financial Representative's main responsibilities will include:

  • Processing financial transactions, supporting college procurement contract processes and reviews, performing reconciliations and key analysis, and performing financial reviews.
  • Providing financial reports including profit and loss statements and revenue and expense trends.
  • Supporting annual budget development, in-year re-forecast, and year-end closes processes.
  • Providing KFS chart management, and financial management and reporting.
  • Performing tuition, credit card, and other asset and liability reconciliations and analysis.
  • Monitoring purchase order encumbrance activity.

In addition to these key responsibilities, as a key member of the Finance team, this position co-monitors the College's central customer service mailbox and provides backup to fellow team members as necessary to meet departmental demands and deadlines. This role also assists with the development and maintenance of documented standard operating procedures (SOPs), and provides training and guidance to fellow team members, faculty, and staff on processes and best practices. Lastly, this position will require staying current in Cornell University and SC Johnson College of Business policies and procedures related to finance and participating in trainings through the Division of Financial Affairs (DFA) on an ongoing basis.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or 1-2 years of formal training beyond a HS diploma with 2-4 years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Accounting experience and/or formal coursework in Accounting applications is required.
  • Must be able to compile, analyze, and report on complex data.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and demonstrated ability to communicate and work with a broad range of people.
  • Attention to detail, organizational skills and prioritization skills are required.
  • Able to work quickly & effectively under pressure, use judgement in accomplishing tasks, balance conflicting priorities, and make decisions from a range of choices.
  • Must be comfortable working in an environment where change in process/procedures is the norm.
  • Proceed alone on regular tasks, consulting with supervisor on questionable situations.
  • Must be able to work independently while supporting the efforts of the overall team.
  • Must be able and willing to enhance personal knowledge, skills and abilities as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 2-4 years concentrated experience in a financial office setting.
  • Prior work experience at Cornell University with an understanding of Cornell policies and procedures related to financial processing and management and familiarity with University systems: KFS, Tableau. Expertise in Excel, KFS, OBIEE Dashboards.
