Caldwell University invites applications for a full-time ,exempt, bi-lingual Academic Coach. This grant funded position is available beginning December 1, 2021- October 1, 2026. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Academic Support, the Academic Coach will assess each academically at-risk student’s study habits, barriers, and difficulties and create a structured approach in supporting their academic advancement through effective learning strategies. Specific job duties include, but are not limited to;
  • Assisting students with the following areas; creating short and long term goals, concentrating, conquering procrastination, using study time productively, motivating, establishing study plans, managing time, note-taking, reading strategies for college, and solving problems. 
  • Scheduling an initial meeting with students to assess their strengths and weaknesses. Creating an action plan for the student based on their needs. Regularly checking in to evaluate student progress both in-person and online. Thoroughly documenting each student meeting. 
  • Reviewing students’ academic work and providing feedback.
  • Creating online modules for students to access best practices.
  • Connecting students to tutoring services and resources.
  • Conducting academic preparation workshops for faculty and students.
A Masters Degree in education, counseling, social work, higher education or a related field plus one to two years of advising, mentoring, or academic coaching experience is required. Experience working with academically at-risk students is also required. Must be fluent in both English and Spanish. Some evenings and weekends will be required. Must be proficient in Google Applications (Calendar, Docs, Sheets) and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel). A current NJ State Certification as a Learning Teacher-Consultant with experience in higher education is preferred.

The successful candidate will be student centered, possess the ability to listen, and develop an effective action plan to assist students in their academic success. This individual will also have excellent written and oral communication skills, be detailed oriented and can successfully work in a highly collaborative environment.
