Job Description

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham ( UAB) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position (9 months) in statistics beginning August 15, 2022. Applicants whose research is focused on probability and statistics, including computational aspects of these areas, are encouraged to apply. Those with expertise in applications are of particular interest in this search.

Applicants should have demonstrated the potential to excel in the research areas mentioned above and in teaching at all levels of instruction. They should also be committed to professional service including departmental service. A Ph.D. in mathematics or a related field is required, and post-doc experience is preferred.

40% - TEACHING: Teach a combination of required and elective Mathematics courses at the Undergraduate and Graduate level. Hold regular office hours for students involved in classes taught. Participate in the academic and professional mentoring and advising of undergraduate and graduate students. Participate in the research advising of students including serving as an advisor of projects in our Fast-track program and as a dissertation/thesis for graduate students.

40% - RESEARCH: Conduct and publish research commensurate with a Carnegie level 1 research university (quantity, quality, significance, and impact are to be considered). Research, write, and publish in area of specialty in peer reviewed journals/books. Maintain an active and productive research program. Attend and present findings at professional conferences.

20% - SERVICE: Serve on departmental, College, and/or University committees and contribute actively to the workings of the University community. Participate in professional service.

Required Qualifications

1. A Ph.D. in Mathematics or related field is expected by the start date of the appointment (08-15-2022).

2. Demonstrated ability to work in interdisciplinary and collaborative environments.

3. A proven record or demonstration for high potential in research and publications.

4. Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at undergraduate and graduate levels.
