The Department of Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics (BEAM) at Virginia Tech invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions at the assistant professor level, effective August 2022, in areas related to biomedical imaging or tissue engineering as well as broader interests in theoretical, computational, and/or experimental methods. Data driven research/teaching applications is also preferred. We are seeking candidates motivated to contribute to a collegial, interdisciplinary community with a strong tradition of both fundamental and applied research, high quality teaching and mentoring.
BEAM is an interdisciplinary department with faculty having broad interests spanning engineering, science, mathematics, and medicine. Offering BS, MS, and PhD degrees in engineering mechanics and in biomedical engineering, the department currently has 42 faculty members, and is home to over 200 undergraduate and nearly 200 graduate students. BEAM's graduate BME program is ranked #33 by US News & World Report.

The successful candidates will have a Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering, engineering mechanics or a closely aligned field, a strong record of academic accomplishments and a proven ability to work collaboratively, experience with and commitment to interdisciplinary research and instruction, and a willingness to expand disciplinary boundaries to address complex technical and societal challenges. The successful candidates will be required to have a criminal conviction check as well as documentation of COVID-19 vaccination or exemption status.
