Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.

Job Summary
Coordinates and implements marketing and communication projects that support the assigned department and/or college's goals to help shape effective marketing and communications strategies. Organizes public image campaigns and special events that are engaging and contain interactive social media content strategy that enhances the College reputation. Responsible for creating brand awareness through advertising and social media for the College. Works collaboratively with college partners to achieve project objectives, milestones and deliverables, and campaign effectiveness reporting.

Responsibilities
1. Reporting to the Communications Manager in the Office of Research, works collaboratively in the development and execution of public relations, marketing, and digital media messaging to increase brand awareness of services, resources, events, programs, and activities of the following Office of Research entities: the Office of Economic Development and Community Engagement and current and future university-level research centers and institutes, including the KSU Field Station, the A.L. Burruss Institute of Public Service and Research, Research Computing, the Center for Innovation in STEM Education Research, and the Social Science Research Space

2. Proactively identifies and develops story ideas focused on the above-named entities that demonstrate purpose and benefit to users such as scope of research/scholarship performed, student and faculty successes, community outreach efforts, etc.

3. Responsible for writing for a variety of media, both print and electronic, including feature stories for The Investigator Research Magazine, press releases, stories for the Office of Research websites, social media posts, marketing copy, and other projects as assigned

4. Provides Communications Manager timely updates on the progression of day-to-day project activities and production processes, including unexpected delays and challenges, adjusting strategies as needed in support of the Office of Research's overall goals and objectives

5. Update content on related websites

6. Provides recommendations to assist in the strategic planning and management of the research communications fiscal budget, including the usage of internal and external resources available

7. Produces multimedia content, including audio and video creation and editing as needed to optimize research-related programming, events, and activities, ensuring 100% accuracy, consistency in brand, style, and tone

8. In partnership with the Communications Manager, coordinates and collaborates on research news with other institutional level communications professionals

9. Performs other communications and marketing tasks that support the vision and mission of the Office of Research

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in marketing, business administration or related field

Required Experience
Two (2) years of marketing, communications or public relations work experience with a focus on account management and digital campaign management

Preferred Qualifications

Google Analytics certified
SEO BrightEdge or other SEO certification

Preferred Experience
Previous experience in higher education preferred
Extensive experience with various computer software

Knowledge of communication, sales and broad understanding of marketing principles
Knowledge of branding standards and University policies and guidelines used to develop marketing and advertising materials

SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem-solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e. Microsoft Office suite, Adobe suite including Photoshop, etc.)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and email etiquette

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES*:
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing, editing, interviewing and proofreading for a variety of audiences with the ability to learn quickly how to translate complex, often scientific content for broader audiences
  • Knowledge and proficiency in editorial style (especially Associated Press Style) and broad understanding of public relations principles and techniques
  • Bachelor's degree in writing-intensive related field such as public relations, communications, or journalism is highly desired
  • Ability to work in a high energy environment under pressure
  • Ability to work as a member of a creative team
  • Experience developing and/or editing a variety of content types including audio, video, written, and photographic media
  • Experience in editorial and digital media content creation, including basic graphic design and layout
