Manhattan College Department of Communication 

DUTIES: The Communication Department’s Coordinator of Media Technology oversees, maintains, upgrades, and manages all periodic and necessary upgrades to the department’s laboratory facilities and field equipment, provides technical support to the students and faculty in the department, and supervises a student staff for equipment checkout and lab assistance.

Our labs include, at this time:

  • the Sumner Redstone Television Production Center (a digital three-camera 4K television/video/streaming studio)

  • its attached Edit Lab (a PC Avid-based video post-production lab)

  • our Multimedia Lab (an Apple Mac and Adobe Creative Cloud lab for web tools, web design, digital print design, and digital storytelling)

  • a Mobile Production Unit (MPU) with Ross switcher and graphics, used to produce live sporting broadcasts on ESPN+/ESPN3 at Draddy Gym and Gaelic Park.

In addition, the Coordinator implements and supervises policies and procedures for student access to facilities and field equipment (modeled after the systems in place in any professional facility) and updates/alters these policies as necessary. The Coordinator also is responsible to recruit, interview, and recommend the hire of student assistant staff and trains and supervises the department’s student assistants to check out/in equipment in accordance with such policies and procedures and staff our labs outside class hours.

QUALIFICATIONS: The position requires working knowledge of state-of-the-art broadcast-quality television/video production systems, including: 4K video capture and processing; ENG/EFP equipment; live video production environments, Avid video editing software; ProTools digital audio software; SSD media capture; streaming media software; and all software and programming for Internet-based and digital print publishing (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, WordPress, etc.). The coordinator must be familiar and have experience with video-testing equipment and have the ability to troubleshoot and carry out basic repairs and maintenance functions, as well as research and recommend technology upgrades to the facilities. Bachelor’s Degree required.
