Assistant Director of Web Communications

Section I: Scope

Reporting to the Director of Web Communications, the Assistant Director of Web Communications is responsible for producing content for the College websites, making updates to website content, and managing social media for Manhattan College, including aligning initiatives in these areas with strategic plan goals and assessing analytics. Additionally, the Assistant Director of Web Communications will assist with managing email marketing for admissions and managing the board of trustees website portal.

Section II: Responsibilities

Reports to: Director of Web Communications 

Supervises: N/A


  • Manages social media content calendar that strategically showcases the College’s top initiatives and goals
  • Maintains department-wide editorial calendar
  • Manages daily operation of Manhattan College’s social media properties including monitoring accounts and responding to questions posted by users
  • Monitors social media on evenings, weekends, and during emergencies and responds as needed
  • Leads administrative working group with colleagues across campus to ensure that social media content from departments is appropriate and complies with College policies
  • Responds to website requests from departments across campus and assists with site updates
  • Keeps current on trends in social media and website communication and makes recommendations about new platforms and strategies to pursue
  • Writes original content for including feature articles, news articles and press releases
  • Works with campus stakeholders and colleagues in Marketing & Communication department to develop and source story ideas
  • Works with leadership to manage content and access to the board of trustees portal
  • Assists with video production as needed
  • Assists with other projects related to Manhattan College’s digital communications
Section III: Qualifications
  • 6-8 years experience
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including AP style
  • Advanced knowledge of utilizing social media for strategic communications
  • Advanced knowledge of web and social media analytics
  • Basic HTML knowledge and familiarity with standard content management systems
  • Basic Photoshop and photography skills
  • Some knowledge of photography and videography preferred
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • High level of initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to effectively work with colleagues from across the College ranging from executives to student workers
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master's preferred
