The Communications Specialist reports to the Executive Director of Marketing and Public Relations and is responsible for a wide range of communications/marketing efforts to meet the college’s recruitment and retention goals. The Communications Specialist assists with managing content both internally and externally, including writing, editing and proofreading. Writes press releases, internal communications via CCMemo (or other internal communication platform) and assists with handling media requests. Ensures that messaging and brand awareness are consistent. Manages and oversees annual and special projects, such as yearly update of academic program flyers, commencement and other college and community events. Works with Deans and Program Coordinators on the development and updating of Academic Program Flyers. Coordinates the distribution and display of promotional materials on campus. Completes purchase orders, work orders and other internal forms for the department as needed. The specialist is essential to content management: website, advertising, PR, social media. This position is an integral team member in the execution of the annual marketing plan, marketing strategy, and campaign timelines, and student interns.

Excellent news/feature writing and oral communication skills and excellent proofreading, editing skills. Outstanding organizational skills. Experience with print, website and electronic publications and social media. Strong interpersonal skills, able to design, develop and conduct presentations. Attention to detail and ability to exercise independent judgement. Customer service focused.

A minimum of 5 to 7 years in communications, public relations, or marketing. Previous experience in higher education is highly desired. A Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication, business or a related field required.
