Position Summary

Austin Peay State University is seeking a candidate with a focus in Assessment Instruction for a tenure-track position. The teaching assignment will include general method and assessment courses at the undergraduate and graduate level and supervision of clinical teachers. Faculty members will advise pre-service teacher candidates who are seeking a professional teaching license, and conduct relevant research. Expectations to deliver instruction in a variety of modalities, including online and on ground. Position to begin August, 2022.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:
  • Teach general method and assessment courses at the undergraduate and graduate level;
  • Work with the College of Education Office of Assessment to assist with all assessment needs. 
  • Supervise and prepare pre-service teachers for successful edTPA completion; 
  • Advise pre-service teacher candidates who are seeking a professional teaching license;
  • Conduct relevant research in professional field of study; 
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support the mission and vision of the college and university;
  • Adapt innovative teaching methods to support student success.

  • Be willing to adopt innovative teaching methods and delivery as appropriate.

  • Demonstrate respect for the diverse learning needs of students. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop and implement curriculum objectives and content for courses offered and taught in one's curriculum area. 
  • Demand and maintain high standards and expectations for all students. 
  • Implement teaching activities and a diversity of teaching techniques, procedures, and resources including application of technology. 
  • Develop and implement evaluation and assessment techniques that are appropriate for each course. 
  • Be available, knowledgeable, and demonstrate proficiency in the practice of academic advisement of students. 
  • Serve effectively on committees and other appropriate functions that assist in University governance.
Required Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will demonstrate:
  • An earned Doctorate in Middle/Secondary Education, Assessment, Curriculum and Instruction, or closely related field; 
  • ABD will be considered if all degree requirements and qualifications are met, including successful defense of dissertation, by date of hire (August 1, 2022);
  • A minimum of three years of successful teaching at the K-12 level at an accredited school district in the United States; 
  • Commitment to scholarly activity, scholarly publications, and conference presentations; 
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching, potential for scholarly research, achievement in professional endeavor, interpersonal skills, sensitivity to diversity, and ability to relate to local constituencies; 
  • A background search will be required of the successful candidate.
