POSITION SUMMARY:
The Office of Residential Life at Washington University in St. Louis has an opening for a Residential College Director (RCD). This position is responsible for enhancing the quality of life for residential students through the development of programs and activities which promote learning and foster an inclusive community. RCDs possess a commitment to social justice, as well as an open mind and willingness to learn. Flexibility, positive attitude, and sense of humor are critical to success. RCDs are key members of the Residential Life team, and as such, also participate in departmental planning, evaluation, and administration. RCDs are 12-month, full-time, live-in positions with involvement in both departmental and University-wide committees and initiatives. Residential Colleges and Residential Communities are each unique and have their own amenities and programs.

Our residential communities include:
  • Residential Colleges with primarily first-year and second-year students, overseen by Residential College Directors
  • Residential Communities, both on and off-campus, comprised of second-year and upper-class students, overseen by Residential Community Directors
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate 7-15 undergraduate Resident Advisors
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate a Graduate Fellow
  • Create, implement, and evaluate the Residential Education Model, to cultivate an environment steeped with social justice ideals
  • Manage residential area budget and accounting procedures
  • Assist with departmental administration (i.e. staff selection, training, room selection, assessment, etc.)
  • Maintain a system of intervention and referral for students experiencing academic or personal difficulties including partnering with Habif Health and Wellness
  • Maintain open lines of communication with different constituencies, including parents, campus partners, and academic partners
  • Understand, communicate, and enforce University policies and procedures
  • Adjudicate residential student conduct with a focus on restorative justice and educational sanctioning
  • Work with academic administrators, partners, and faculty to enhance and promote student-faculty interaction in the residential areas
  • Serve as an active liaison between the housekeeping and maintenance personnel
  • Serve on various university, division, and departmental committees as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's Degree in Higher Education or related field strongly preferred.
  • Candidates must be student focused as well as have the ability to build strong relationships with faculty, administrators and parents.
  • A desire to work with a diverse group of students at a highly selective institution should also be exhibited.
  • Must take initiative, be ambitious, responsible, and able to work effectively both as a member of a team and independently.
  • Candidates must possess a commitment to social justice, as well as an open mind and willingness to learn.
  • Flexibility, positive attitude, and sense of humor are critical to success.
SALARY RANGE:
Competitive salary ($47,500), furnished apartment, cable, internet, parking, and an excellent University and departmental benefit package, including partner policy and pet policy.
