Responsibilities and Qualifications

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Direction
    • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate residential life professional staff (two full-time area coordinators) and student staff including HRAs, RAs, and office workers
    • Plan and implement winter and fall training programs for student staff
    • Coordinate frequent in-service training/professional development opportunities and conduct annual performance evaluations of all staff
    • Participate in on-call crisis management and serve as a first-responder, including being the “person on call” for RD/RA staff
    • Conduct weekly staff meetings, including regular one-on-one supervision meetings with residential life professional staff
    • Maintain regular contact with student staff
    • Serve in a leadership capacity within the division and as a key member of the student affairs team
    • Provide oversight and direction to the Office of Campus Safety, organizing weekly meetings between the Offices of Residential Life and Campus Safety
  • Community Development and Education
    • Foster a healthy environment within the halls to encourage personal growth and development of residents, along with community responsibility and academic success
    • Direct the development of social and educational programs in collaboration with other campus programming to foster ongoing expansion and development of individual and social capacity within the residential communities
    • Manage the judicial process for the residential communities, overseeing all processes (including the Hearing Board) to ensure alignment with the community values and expectations set forth in the Code of Student Conduct
    • Facilitate the resolution of roommate, individual, or group conflicts within the residential community
    • Serve as a liaison to Northland College Student Association (NCSA) staff and attend weekly meetings
  • Administration and Collaboration
    • Act in a leadership capacity within the division and as an engaged team member with student affairs staff to facilitate students’ co-curricular engagement, assist in crisis situations, and refer students to campus resources where appropriate
    • Assist the Dean of Students in the preparation and development of departmental budgets
    • Assist the Dean of Students in the preparation of the annual Campus Crime and Safety Report including the annual fire report.
    • Direct the creation of monthly reports regarding current residential occupancy numbers and maintain accurate and current summary of student meal plans/revisions
    • Develop long and short-term residential facility maintenance plans in coordination with the Dean of Students and the director of maintenance and facilities
    • Coordinate accommodations for summer residential programs with appropriate offices/personnel to maximize occupancy
    • Oversee the development of written resources regarding policies, procedures, and information pertaining to residential life using a variety of media, including print, web, and intranet platforms
    • Work collaboratively with the maintenance and facilities department, organizing bi-weekly meetings to ensure prompt attention to housing issues
  • Keep supervisor promptly informed of pertinent matters as it relates to the overall residential living experience at the College
  • Perform related work as apparent or assigned

  • Work cooperatively with organizations in the Chequamegon Bay and the general public, actively promoting the College’s mission within the region as an effective representative of the College
  • Act with the highest degree of responsibility and professionalism in handling College funds, e.g., collection of program revenues, travel reimbursements, budget management, and summer housing payments

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or work experience equivalent preferred; bachelor’s degree in student personnel, counseling, or closely related field required
  • Previous experience and success managing student conduct
  • Demonstrated success in previous and progressively more responsible positions
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and coordinate the work of others

Responsibility for the Work of Others

  • Direct and supervise professional staff (residential life coordinators), para-professional student staff, and work-study positions, and direct students carrying out program activities as part of their work
  • Assign projects to professional staff, student staff, and work-study employees
  • Work with the student affairs staff on strategic planning, budgeting, and implementing and evaluating programs

Working Conditions
Position requires frequent evening or weekend work. The position requires you to hold a valid driver’s license and become certified to drive Northland College vehicles.
