Position Summary

Nominations and applications are invited for a non-tenure three-year renewable position at the Instructor rank for the Department of Social Work at Austin Peay State University beginning Fall, 2022. The position title is Field Coordinator and involves overseeing the field program for the BSW and MSW programs at APSU

The faculty and student body of the social work department at Austin Peay is racially/ethnically diverse and dynamic. We have eight full time faculty that serve approximately 200 undergraduate social work majors in our BSW program and approximately 50 graduate students in our advanced generalist MSW program.  Our faculty and students are involved in the community through our many committees and student organizations, and have been involved in many projects that support the APSU campus and the surrounding community. Our campus represents the diversity of the local community and the state and we believe that all are enriched and unified by this diversity. Austin Peay State University is conveniently located near downtown Clarksville, Tennessee, which is in a centralized location surrounded by suburban and rural communities. The Clarksville/Montgomery County area has undergone unprecedented growth in the past 10 years as a destination community for individuals and families, attracting people from all across the nation. Clarksville is only a 45-minute drive to a major metropolitan area, Nashville, which is the capitol of Tennessee and state's largest city; Nashville has an international airport and a booming tourist industry. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Administrates and facilitates the field program for both the BSW and MSW programs. 
  • Recruits new field agencies and facilitates university affiliation agreements with field settings. 
  • Researches evidence based programming and administration of field programming.
  • Works in conjunction with BSW Coordinator, MSW Coordinator, and Department Chair in administrating the field program. 
  • Facilitates student readiness for field experience through teaching, modeling, and meeting students one-on-one. 
  • Maintains regular contact with students as students prepare for the field semester and as they navigate the field semester. 
  • Coordinates field placement through interaction with students and field agencies. 
  • Oversees and approves necessary documentation for field students entering field-liability insurance, field learning contracts, etc. 
  • Oversees field liaisons, field supervisors, and field contact persons while students are in field. 
  • Maintains contact with field liaisons, field supervisors, and students while students are in field. 
  • Oversees field assessment testing. 
  • Maintains a proper system of organizing records, documentation, and requisite paper work, preferably in electronic format. 
  • Teaches pre-field readiness seminar (SW 4400) and a field concurrent seminar (SW 4411). 
  • Continues to work with department coordinators, department chair, department faculty, and professional field peers to improve and streamline the field process so as to be best serve the student.
  • Takes advantage of professional development opportunities by staying abreast of the latest trends, research, and innovations in field, through local and national associations, local affiliations, and local and national conferences. 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of CSWE requirements and social work field pedagogy. 
  • Skills necessary to administer field programming in an organized and orderly manner and the human relations skills to foster camaraderie and teamwork. 
  • Basic computer skills, with skills in Word, Outlook and Excel preferred. 
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • MSW from an accredited Social Work education program required with at least two years practice experience.
